Rosa Almeida art uses different media aiming at blurring them and expanding each of them for a edgy and challeging art, in installations, light, site specific, scent, drawing, video, sculpture, photograph and text.
More recently her focus has been on scent art and she went passionate about scent as an artistic media that has still so much to explore almost in a pioneering way. Her approach to this media and subject is not to go from visual art to non visual neither narrowing scent art to olfaction per se. She is interested in the world of perfumery as in natural landscapes and its aromas. She wants to bridge art genres such as site specific and sculpture keeping the characteristics of them which are conceptual and visual and add scent not only as a spacial and contextual material but as a central theme as some of her scent artworks that are made to unable our experience with perfume through artworks and also represent how could such invisible media be deeply reconizable by the eye. She’ s very interested in collaborations with perfumists, having study perfumery herself, and incorporate the storytellng or the branding of perfumery namelly some historical perfumes into her visual interpretations. In a way she want to position this body of work of hers as a new approach to olfactory art adding more visuality to some previous olfactory art that maybe dumped the visual a bit too much. Aren't flowers the ultimate expressions of form and color, along with their aromas and natural ecosystems? She uses both naturals and synthetic ingredients in her scent creations.
